Nyck de Vries started racing at a young age
De Vries was born on February 6, 1995 in Uitwellingerga, The Netherlands and grew up there.
His first race was a kart race in the town of Sneek, where he was born. He started his career in 2004 and has won many titles, including the KF3 Championship at the WSK, the German Junior Kart and the CIK-FIA European Championship.
In 2015 he drove with most of his teammates and was able to start in the Formula Renault 3.5 series as well as in the GP3 series and the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

In 2008, De Vries won the German Junior Championship and the WSK World Series in the KF3 category. In 2009 he won the KF3 European Championship and retained both his German Junior and WSK World Series titles. He won the 2010 Karting World Championship in September. In 2011 he became world champion.
Formula Renault Eurocup
In 2012, de Vries switched to singles and R-ace GP got him a place in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. De Vries clinched his first podium finish with a second place in his first race at Alcaiz and repeated it at the Hungaroring. At the end of the season, De Vries was in fifth place, better than all of his teammates. De Vries also took part in several Formula Renault 2.0 NEC races, one of which he won at his home circuit in Assen. In eleven races he was on the podium four times and thus finished tenth in the drivers’ standings.
The next year, de Vries moved to the Koiranen GP for his second season in the series. He won a race each at the Hungaroring and the Circuit de Catalunya and was again fifth in the championship at the end of the season.
De Vries stayed with Koiranen in 2014 and played in the Eurocup for the third time. He won six races and was on the podium in 11 of the 14 races he competed in. He won the championship by a wide margin over Dennis Olsen, who finished second. He had 254 points to Olsen’s 124. He also competed in the entire Alpine Formula Renault season. He won 10 of the 14 races he entered and only twice did he not finish in the top three.
Formula Renault 3.5 Series
In 2015, De Vries switched to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for DAMS. Before his victory in the final race of the season at the Circuito de Jerez, he was on the podium five times. With 160 points, he finished third in the final standings, just behind Oliver Rowland and Matthieu Vaxivière.
In 2016, De Vries drove for the ART Grand Prix in the GP3 series. At the Red Bull Ring he got his first podium in third place. In Budapest he got his first pole. He didn’t win his first race until the second in Monza. At the end of the season he won again at the Yas Marina Circuit. In the championship, he finished sixth behind teammates Charles Leclerc and Alexander Albon, who won the title and were runners-up, respectively.
In 2017, de Vries started racing with Rapax in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
He won the sprint race in Monte Carlo for the first time, and he won three more races before the summer break.
Before the race at Spa-Francorchamps, de Vries switched to Racing Engineering. In this race he finished second with Racing Engineering. He finished seventh in the championship, which was the second-best finish of any rookie.
For the 2018 season, de Vries moved to Prema Racing to work with Sean Gelael. His season got off to a slow start. He only made it onto the podium twice in the first third of the season, well behind his title rivals. The first race of the season that De Vries won was a sprint race at Le Castellet. He then failed to score points in Austria and twice finished outside the top five at Silverstone. However, the Dutchman’s performance picked up after that and he won the main races in Hungary and Belgium. Despite taking his sixth podium of the season at the feature race in Sochi, de Vries failed to finish in the top three overall. Alex Albon and Lando Norris beat him by 10 and 17 points, respectively.

In 2019 de Vries stayed in Formula 2, returning to his old team ART Grand Prix, where he teamed up with 2018 GP3 runner-up Nikita Mazepin. His season started well with a podium finish in Baku and a win in a sprint race in Barcelona. He then won from pole at Monaco and won the feature race at Le Castellet to take the championship lead. Two third places at the Red Bull Ring, a podium each at Silverstone and Budapest and two further third places at Monza gave de Vries a hand on the trophy. After de Vries won his fourth and final race of the season at the penultimate race in Sochi, he was mathematically crowned Formula 2 champion.
FIA World Endurance Championships
De Vries joined Racing Team Nederland on March 15, 2018 to race in the LMP2 class. On October 6, 2019, he won the 6 Hours of Fuji with this team. It was her first win in this class. De Vries finished the race by driving the final leg of the race.
On July 6, 2020, it was announced that De Vries will be test and reserve driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH. As part of his job, he tests the Toyota TS050 Hybrid and the Toyota Hypercar.
In the week of testing leading up to the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ACO did not allow Philippe Cimadomo, who was driving for TDS Racing x Vaillante, to start. He was already on the track because he was a backup driver for Team Toyota Hypercar. With Philippe Cimadomo being a Bronze driver and De Vries a Platinum driver, the car was moved from Pro/Am to Pro.
On September 11, 2019, it was announced that De Vries would be a driver of the new Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team alongside Stoffel Vandoorne for the 2019–20 Formula E season. This comes after he was unable to find a place in Formula One for the 2020 Formula One season.
The team’s record at the end of the season was 1-2, with Vandoorne ahead of De Vries, who finished 11th on 60 points.
