After connecting to a dating app, a man kidnapped and assaulted a woman for more than five days.

An Australian who abducted a woman and then brutally beat and raped her over the course of five days has been sentenced to 22 years in prison. Robert Wilson, a 35-year-old father of two, met the victim through dating app Badoo.

On Friday July 22, Wilson was convicted in Victoria’s County Court after pleading guilty to the heinous act he committed against the 39-year-old woman.

Dralin Carswell, Honey Boo Boo’s boyfriend, was arrested in 2019 and charged with statutory rape.

Before being locked in a bedroom at Robert’s home in Darley, northwest Melbourne, from March 25-29, the victim and Robert, 35, met via dating app Badoo.

The victim was allegedly threatened with being turned into a “money machine”.

Recalling the horrific experience, the woman claimed that every time she left her bedroom and entered a hallway, an alarm went off to warn Wilson. He threatened to kill the woman, deport her, or turn her into a “money machine” by enticing men to have sex with her if she tried to escape. The woman was brutally physically abused, humiliated and beaten, causing her face to become so swollen that she could not see.

Wilson was sentenced to 22 years and 6 months in prison by District Judge Fiona Todd on Friday, July 22. Wilson is listed as a lifelong sex offender and faces 16 years in prison before he can be released. Wilson apparently discussed plans to move in with the woman just before locking her in his home and holding her as a prisoner.

He watched the movement of the victim.

Wilson used security cameras to monitor the victim’s activities on his property; an electric fence and metal shutters around his house. Robert hit her with a metal rod, put a harpoon to her head, strangled her and asked her, “Do you want to die?” during the attacks. He even forced the woman to send him money and delete her Facebook and phone contacts.

On March 29, 2019, Wilson released her after five days. He drove the victim to her apartment and warned her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. Wilson pleads guilty to false imprisonment, three counts of rape, theft and malicious damage.

Unlimited cruelty

The crime was described as “grossly horrific” by Judge Todd. The judge intended the punishment to adequately convey the seriousness of the attacks and the appalling brutality. The judge remarked, “This was beyond cruelty.”

She claimed that the horrific act had a devastating effect on the victim and that she might never consider dating a man again. She was often frozen in fear while you hurt her, but she had tremendous determination to live, Judge Todd said as he read the victim’s impact statement. She stated that she feels different now and that she will never be normal again, the judge said.

Judge Todd commended the victim’s “Herculean” efforts to tell her friends, the police and the courts about the incident and endure days of cross-examination.
