Police have returned to a rural, forested area south of Nanaimo to search for Amber Manthorne, a 40-year-old Port Alberni Aboriginal woman who is missing from her hometown.
Her friend Kristie St. Claire said the search for her home near Port Alberni’s Great Central Lake lasted several days before detectives decided to focus on the area where her car was found.
On Sunday, St. Claire and others rushed to the gravel pit near Timberlands and Ninatti roads west of Cassidy where the SUV had been found.
Numerous fans known as “Amber’s Army” use ATVs to assist in the search. Many people mounted their dirt bikes on the back of their pickup trucks so they could search further afield for the missing women.
According to stories cited by Global News, people have ventured down back streets and checked out every street and place they are familiar with.

Despite the constant efforts of authorities and local people, Amber Manthorne has not been found since her disappearance.
Some of the examined sites were marked with marking tape. Searchers’ own typing hotline, 250-730-1544, has been set up and is accepting screenshots as well as text messages.
