A well-known horse trainer named Chad Brown faces domestic violence charges in Saratoga Springs.

He is primarily known for training turf horses, mares and fillies in the American thoroughbred horse racing scene.

In addition to Horse of the Year Bricks and Mortar, he has trained eight other Eclipse Award winners including Stacelita, Big Blue Kitten, Lady Eli, Flintshire and Flintshire.

He won his first Triple Crown race using cloud computing at the 2017 Preakness Stakes after taking home the 2016 Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer.

After his arrest, Brown spent the night in a city jail

Coach Chad Brown was arrested Wednesday night and taken to prison in upstate New York.

On Thursday, the man spent the night in the city jail after forcing a lady down a flight of stairs at his home, pinning her to the ground and attempting to choke her before throwing her outside, according to Assistant District Attorney Kayla Potter.

He has experienced difficulties in the past.

The U.S. Department of Labor alleges Brown agreed to pay more than $1.6 million in unlawfully withheld overtime pay, back payments and penalties in 2019, according to the Times Union.

Brown, the owner of Chad Brown Racing in Mechanicville, admitted that between December 2014 and August 2017 at its Saratoga and Belmont Park Race Track facilities in Nassau County, his company submitted fraudulent timesheets and failed to register approximately 150 groomers and horse walkers pay.

The horse trainer is accused of breathing difficulties

Brown was charged with the felony of obstructing breath, a police officer who spoke to Horse Racing Nation said.

According to Sgt. Paul Veitch, a spokeswoman for the Saratoga Springs Police Department, appeared in court and was released Thursday after posting $2,500 in cash bail.

Chad C. Brown, a horse trainer, pushed a woman down several steps and attempted to choke her.

Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen said Brown entered a not-guilty plea.

Subrina Dhammi, a news anchor for Albany’s WNYT-TV, tweeted about Brown’s indictment in Saratoga Springs Municipal Court. In footage of Dhamma, Brown can be seen exiting the courtroom in shackles, shorts and a t-shirt.

Heggen told HRN that Brown was scheduled to appear back in court on September 2 for the next round of hearings in the case. She adds that the charges are a Class A misdemeanor with a $1,000 fine and 364 days in prison as the possible punishment.
