biography
Marty McFly was born to Irish-American parents in Hill Valley, California. Not much is known about Marty’s life before the first Back to the Future movie, except that he set fire to the living room carpet at the age of 8, he told his future parents. When he was about 14 years old, he met his friend Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown after hearing that Brown was a dangerous weirdo. Marty, a “pure American teenager,” wanted to see for himself what was going on. He snuck into Doc’s lab and was amazed at everything he had made. Doc was happy to find someone who liked his work when he caught him and so they became friends.
Marty’s band The Pinheads plays guitar in 1985, and Marty enjoys listening to Huey Lewis and the News, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Van Halen and Michael Jackson. He’s also good at skateboarding and shooting a pistol, which he’s learned over and over again through playing Wild Gunman and other shooting games at his local 7-Eleven.
By 2015, Marty’s life had spiraled out of control due to pain from an injury to his hand that left him unable to play guitar. This injury occurs in 1985 when Marty accepts a road racing challenge from his school friend Douglas J. Needles after being called a chicken and crashes into a Rolls-Royce. In 1885, Biff Tannen’s great-grandfather Buford provoked Marty into a fight. Marty wins despite not pointing a gun at Buford. Returning to 1985, he remembers that event and what his great-great-grandfather Seamus McFly told him, so he abandons the challenge of Needles and avoids the crash that would have ruined his musical talent.
