Jones was predicted as a fourth- or fifth-round draft pick by NFL draft pundits and analysts, but was not drafted in the 2016 NFL draft, possibly due to his lack of size. Jones joined the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2016, and the Patriots offered him a $1.63 million three-year contract. The deal also included a $10,000 signing bonus.
