On the night of the murders, she asked Jason to sleep with her on the couch, but he refused and went to sleep in the basement instead. Then, under the guise of a sleepover, Brandi brought her son Tyler, then 7 years old, to Charlee’s room.

It was at this location that she began killing Tyler by repeatedly stabbing him in the neck. Charlee was startled by the sound of the stitches, but Brandi warned her to go back to sleep. When Worley was done with Tyler, she turned her attention to her own daughter and used the same method to end her own life by stabbing herself in the neck.

Before committing the murders, Brandi had called her mother to her home, but she had not disclosed her intentions to kill anyone. Jason was finally awakened from his sleep by the horrified screams that Brandi’s mother let out upon discovering the bodies of her deceased grandchildren.

The only reason Brandi committed these heinous acts was to prevent her husband from gaining custody of their children and taking them away from her. She initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but later changed it to a guilty plea.

Murders of Tyler and Charlee Worley

Brandi Worley went to Walmart in Crawfordsville, Indiana on the pretext that she needed to buy pipe cleaners for a school project her son Tyler was working on. The dance performance for her daughter Charlee had just ended and Brandi had just returned from attending. The Kabar combat knife used in the murder was purchased by Brandi Worley at a Walmart on Nov. 16, according to a prosecutor named Joseph Buser, who works for the Montgomery County government. The first thing she did when she got home was put the knife in Tyler’s room. She offered Jason to sleep on the couch, but he declined, stating that he’d rather sleep in the basement than on her bed or the couch.

Brandi lured Tyler into Charlee’s bedroom by saying there would be a sleepover there while Jason slept in the basement of their house. Jason slept in the basement. She inflicted fatal wounds on the children by stabbing them in the neck, and then she stabbed herself in the neck. Brandi murdered her son before murdering her daughter. After waking up to hear several stitches being delivered to her brother, the daughter demanded, “What are you doing?” Brandi, in response to her question, instructed her to “keep sleeping.” After that, she stabbed her daughter several times. Finally, Brandi called 9-1-1 to report the murders. She reported having “a lot of Benadryl” in her system. She told 911 that she had previously spoken to her mother and that her mother is currently on her way to the scene of the incident. Her mother was not yet aware of the recent incidents in the family.

At first, the 9-1-1 leader hoped or believed the call wasn’t real, so she contacted Brandi Worley’s mother, the victims’ grandmother, and asked her to check on how the children were doing. Jason was startled by his mother-in-law’s screams as she found out her grandchildren had been murdered. Brandi informed Jason that at this point he could no longer take the children away from her. The police arrived around 3:30 am.

On November 22, 2016, the memorial service for the victims was held at the Darlington Community Center and they were buried after the service in Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington. A vigil was held on November 18, 2016 at the Congregational Christian Church, also located in Darlington.
