In an episode of The Young Turks that aired in 2011, Cenk Uygur and his co-host Ana Kasparian denied allegations made by actress Olivia Munn of sexual harassment by director Brett Ratner. Uygur also defended Ratner’s boast of having sex with Munn, stating that she probably “freaked him out.” Uygur later retracted his statements and apologized for them.
In 2013 in Miami, Uygur was overheard making vulgar remarks about the way women presented their bodies. Uygur endorsed the Harvard men’s soccer team in 2016 after evaluating female students and discussing sexual acts they intended to perform on them. In 2017, a TYT employee told TheWrap that Uyghurs made working conditions for female employees uncomfortable by speaking inappropriately about women.

According to a report published by BuzzFeed on Jan. 23, 2018, Andrew Jerell Jones, who previously worked as a reporter for The Young Turks, had filed a lawsuit accusing the news agency of involvement in racial discrimination. Jones said that when he complained about racial prejudice at the company, Uygur allegedly informed Jones that it was a felony offense and tried to get Jones to remain silent about it. Jones made this allegation in the context of Uygur allegedly telling Jones that it was a fireable offense. Uygur issued a statement, published on Buzzfeed, in which he said, “The statements attributed to me in the workplace are entirely fabricated.”
Responding to the unionization of TYT employees
Uygur made a controversial request to his employees in February 2020 when the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees attempted to unionize The Young Turks. He asked his employees not to join the union. Uyghurs are rumored to have fired employee Jacorey Palmer for his pro-union efforts, and an unnamed TYT worker alleges that Uyghurs have withheld bonuses and pay rises from employees who participated in the union offensive. Uygur denied the allegations against him. Since Uygur also supported progressive issues, many people considered his attitude towards unions hypocritical.
