When she was a child her parents worked on a sugar cane farm and she grew up in Dunethin Rock on the Sunshine Coast near the Maroochy River. When she was 12, her parents moved the family to Weipa, where she attended Western Cape College.
Townsville Grammar School was also where Tia-Clair went to school. After high school, the athlete went to Queensland University of Technology to study nursing. But she moved to Gladstone to start a new life with the man who would become her husband. He was the one who showed her CrossFit.
