The Luckiest Girl in the World: Film Location
Filming of The Happiest Girl Alive took place in both New York and Ontario, specifically Toronto. New York City as well as Cobourg and Whitby and Suffolk counties. Principal filming for the film starring Mila Kunis reportedly began in late June 2021 and lasted through August of the same year. During the shooting schedule, members of the cast and crew were seen filming school scenes in and around the Cobourg Collegiate Institute at 335 King Street East and the former Brookside Youth Center at 390 King Street East. Both locations are on King Street. Willmott Street also appears in a few different scenes in the film.
Located in Ontario, Whitby
The Happiest Girl Alive production team also established a base of operations in the town of Whitby, located in the Durham region of southern Ontario. They reportedly filmed several significant scenes for the mystery film in the neighborhoods of Trafalgar Castle School, located at 401 Reynolds Street, and Iroquois Park Sports Center, located at 500 Victoria Street West. Both locations are in Toronto. The former served as a replacement for the exterior of the Brentley School, which Ani attended as a student.

In August 2021, the cast and crew were observed filming several significant sequences at the North Ferry Terminal, which served as a proxy for Nantucket Island, in a privately owned parking lot in Shelter Island Heights. Additionally, a house in Greenport Village on Moores Lane in North Fork was used by the filmmakers of the suspense film as a second location for the film’s production.

Knoll drew on her own personal experiences of being bullied and subjected to gang sexual assault as a teenager to write the novel.
Knoll initially told fans that she based the rape and the aftermath of the rape on stories she heard from other people, but she didn’t make that information public when initially promoting the book.
