August 4th was Meghan Markle’s 41st birthday. There is no doubt that the Duchess of Sussex, who currently resides in California with her husband Prince Harry and their two children, must have received congratulations on her special day from a number of her supporters and admirers around the world.

But it was more than that. Her British parents-in-law also publicly wished her a happy birthday. Taking to social media, everyone wished the former actress “happy birthday”, including the Cambridges, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. On their official Twitter page, Prince William and Kate Middleton wished the Duchess of Sussex a happy birthday.

Both congratulations came with two different pictures of Meghan. They were taken while she was in the UK for the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The Queen herself chose not to publicly wish Meghan well among all the other well-wishers.

Did Meghan Markle’s birthday go unnoticed by the Queen?

Richard Palmer, the royal journalist for The Daily Express, described the Queen’s action as “a remarkable absence”. However, he continued: “The Queen is believed to have congratulated Meghan privately yesterday, but her official website has not mentioned her birthday, having decided that she will only recognize the birthdays of non-working family members if they are with a end zero.”

Despite several rumors that the Sussexes are unpopular with the royal family, the couple have consistently reiterated their greatest appreciation for Her Majesty. The Queen has always been nice to me, Meghan reportedly added during her candid conversation with Oprah Winfrey. She was always hospitable and welcoming and I really enjoyed being in her company.

She also revealed that she first met the 96-year-old before she married Harry. The Queen offered to share her blanket to keep Meghan warm during an outing in 2018, the Duchess recalled in a charming anecdote, according to The Independent. “I honestly believed that the curtains took place outside. That was part of the fanfare for me. I don’t think that happened internally. But it’s your grandma, I replied. Then he explained: “It’s the Queen.” The realization came at this point for the first time, Meghan continued.

Meghan and Harry also honored their grandmother by taking their children to the UK for their Silver Anniversary celebrations in June. Her daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, who bears the monarch’s name, was present when she was introduced to her. “These moments with Lilibet are very private between you and the Queen and of course we know how much she was looking forward to it,” royal commentator Omid Scobie said at the time. An epidemic prevented them from advancing. Whenever Harry visited, he did so alone, of course, and on more somber occasions. So this was actually a first.
