The cause of the injuries Stephen A. Smith, 54, is currently recovering from, is unknown.
But it seems he plans to rejoin ESPN at least in August. Smith was also less active on Twitter that month.
He frequently tweets quotes from the program or his opinion on sports-related news that day.
Smith has been a regular analyst at First Take since teaming up with Skip Bayless in 2012, who currently hosts Skip and Shannon: Undisputed on Fox Sports 1.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith will be leaving the network and its popular program First Take.
Fans began to wonder about Smith’s disappearance in recent weeks, both because of his program and his apparent silence on Twitter during what many considered a pivotal time in the NBA offseason.
On Thursday, Smith took to Twitter to clear the air and offer some answers. “I appreciate all the love I got from everyone on @FirstTake who missed me.”
As of Wednesday July 13, Stephen has not been seen on First Take for more than two weeks.
He also mentioned that he was recovering from shoulder surgery and was not playing, Smith said.
Unknown how Smith picked up the shoulder injury, the news drew a mixed reaction from supporters, some of whom expressed their love and support while others were delighted at his absence from the event.
