Revenge: How is it? Review on the Netflix show
If you recently finished watching the latest hit show on Netflix, Do Revenge, starring Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes, and are interested in reading more stories about teenage retribution, you should check this one out. Even after the film of the hour, it’s possible to make a list of the many references to the 1990s decade or inspirations that were important in the making of that film.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing the amusing film, which is reminiscent of many other films of a similar genre. The meeting of Drea and Eleanor, both of whom have experienced episodes of social trauma in the past and carry these memories with them as part of their memories, is the main plot point of the novel. Eleanor is a new student at the same school as Drea, and the two have come to the conclusion that the only way to level the playing field is to “get revenge on one another.”
That’s why we made the decision to help you navigate this genre by providing a list of some classic movies similar to Do Revenge that you should immediately add to your watch list. Prepare for the not-so-glamorous world of high school, where teens are nothing more than budding warriors fighting one heartache at a time.
Do Revenge is streaming on Netflix
You won’t find a more archetypal illustration of the teenage genre anywhere else than here. Mean Girls, analogous to Do Revenge, manifested the entire coming together of teenage revenge narrative. The film, which starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfriend, Lacey Chabert, and more, had it all: a new student starting high school, the reigning queen bee, a revenge track set between supposedly best friends plays, heartbreak, first love, switching sides, a covert annihilation of the popular group’s status, and finally the reunion of friends. Do Revenge features a moderately increased amount of adult content throughout its length, but if you look at it in a different sense, it’s merely an extended celebration of the OG itself.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is the director of the American comedy Do Revenge. Robinson and Celeste Ballard are also credited with writing the film. It stars Camila Mendes, Maya Hawke, Rish Shah, Sophie Turner and Austin Abrams. The plot was influenced by Alfred Hitchcock’s film “Strangers on a Train”. It was first made available on Netflix on September 16, 2022.
Storyline of Do Revenge
Drea and Eleanor, two high school students who attend the same class together, find their lives turned upside down when they are expelled from the high school they attended together. Drea experiences feelings of humiliation as a result of a topless film of herself accidentally shared with others alongside her boyfriend Max. After a rumor spreads that she tried to kiss Carrissa while holding her and the attempt to do so begins to spread, Eleanor is shunned by her peers and eventually becomes an outcast. Drea and Eleanor become friends and make a pact to defend themselves against the bullies that have both victimized them.
Production of Do Revenge
On October 14, 2020, it was reported that Netflix was in the process of developing the film, then titled Strangers. The film was co-written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who drew inspiration for the project from Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train (1951). Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke are rumored to be starring in the movie in November 2020. Sometime in early 2021, new cast members were introduced.
After a rewrite, filming was moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta and Miami, with the storyline taking place in Miami, Florida. The original plan called for filming to take place in Los Angeles in early 2021. The production officially finished filming in August 2021, with the later stages of production taking place in August 2022.
Do Revenge release date
On September 16, 2022, the film became available on Netflix.
On the website Rotten Tomatoes, which collects user reviews, 83 percent of the 40 critic reviews are good, with an average rating of 6.5 out of 10.
According to Metacritic, the film receives “generally positive reviews,” as evidenced by its score of 67 out of 100, which was calculated based on the opinions of 13 different critics.
heather
Winona Ryder’s character Veronica is a member of the It group at her high school; Still, she does not tolerate the cruel treatment of others lightly and longs to return to her former ways and friends. She becomes obsessed with a new defiant boy named JD, and as a result, she and her new boyfriend begin their assault on a group of Heathers of the same name. To cover their tracks and make it appear as if more students had committed suicide than actually did, the suicide rates of popular students posing as bullies were inflated. Do Revenge’s other major source of inspiration is the film Heathers, which, contrary to the typical upbeat tone of teen flicks, features a series of sinister alliances between its characters.
A simple favor
The only other addition to this list does not affect young people in any way. As well as Camila Mendes and Maya Hawkes’ revealing connection in Netflix’s latest release, the film A Simple Favor also stars Anna Kendricks and Blake Lively collaborating in a similar fashion. Stephanie, played by Kendricks, is a single mother and YouTuber tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Emily (played by Lively) before it’s too late. Meanwhile, Stephanie’s life is threatened by a number of factors that go unseen. While it’s highly debatable whether or not the story twist it featured was inevitable, it was undoubtedly also reminiscent of the events that take place in Do Revenge.
John Tucker must die
The story’s protagonist is a female high school jock who, at one point, was “in love” with three different women from three different social circles. The threesome decide to cheat on him by setting him up with a new kid at school in order to break his heart like he broke theirs. To achieve this, Britany Snow’s character must undergo a transformation and become the seductive femme fatale who will bring him to justice. As you’d expect, however, the road to revenge is rarely a walk in the park, and it’s particularly difficult to navigate as a teenager.
thoroughbreds
In this extravagant psychological thriller, starred by Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy, two rich college students put their friendship to the ultimate test as the genre-bending concoction nears a violent end. Although the film’s plot involves the meeting of two vengeful teenagers, both the setting and the general path of the characters differ significantly from those of the film Do Revenge. However, there are still some similarities between this film and the one in question, although this one is messier and more mature.
clueless
Prepare for some makeover sessions. The film, available on Netflix, is undeniably captivating, but Cher Horowitz was the reigning fashion queen of the ’90s, and it’s impossible to top her style. The plot of the film, released in 1995, revolves around a young woman who leads a privileged existence and at the same time deals with her youth. In the midst of this, she makes a decision to be a role model for a new student and teach her how to be popular. The transformation Maya Hawke undergoes in Do Revenge is just a glimpse of the dazzling array of clothing Horowitz owns.
Cruel intentions
We absolutely couldn’t miss Sarah Michelle Gellar’s appearance in Cruel Intentions, which once again explores the lives of upper-class high schoolers, but of course it’s not a family time to watch. There’s no way we would miss Sarah Michelle Gellar’s performance in Cruel Intentions. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the director of the latest Netflix release (which also stars the same actress as the headmaster), has even mentioned that the actress’ previous role in the cult classic had a significant impact on how she wrote for Gellar’s new character. Gellar plays the role of a teacher in the Netflix production.
Your extended dose of youth crime awaits you here. We really hope you enjoy binge-watching these shows back-to-back. Let us know which option was your first choice in the comments section below.
