Polish dark comedy series The Green Glove Gang, also known as Gang Zielonej Rekawiczki, is streaming on Netflix. It was made by Joanna Hartwig-Skalska and Anna Novak-Zemplinska.
Zuza, Kinga and Alicja are old women who steal for a living. After a failed robbery jeopardizes the gang’s identity, they decide to hide out in a nursing home. But the quiet life at the facility isn’t for them, so they bring a group of second years to live with them. When the nursing home is robbed, the three women realize the stakes are higher than they first thought.
The show, which stars Malgorzata Potocka, Anna Romantowska, and Magdalena Kuta, does a good job of mixing scary and heartwarming parts. No, The Green Glove is not based on a true story. Joanna Hartwig-Skalska and Anna Novák-Zemplinska wrote the show. The Netflix show seems to be the first big project for both writers and the two seem to have done their best to make an interesting story. Tadeusz Sliwa was responsible for the show’s first season, which had eight episodes. This dark comedy story isn’t Silwa’s first time directing. He has also worked on The Chairman’s Ear and many music videos.

As expected, the operation is not very smooth, but the viewers have a lot of fun watching it.
Overall, The Gree Glove Gnag isn’t a true story, but it has a lot of themes that people can relate to. The idea of living your life to the fullest, even if it has some criminal undertones, will resonate with many fans. In fact, the series has a good idea in an exciting plot to fully engage viewers and break the stereotypes of characters that actors of a certain age often play.

When the church bells start ringing, Rev. Sir Cedric Hardwicke knows it can only mean one thing. The “green glove”, a miraculous glove inlaid with precious stones, is the sacred relic of the church. It was returned to St. Elizar. People from the town rush to the abbey to celebrate.
After the end of World War II, an American paratrooper named Mike Blake (Glenn Ford) travels to France to find a jeweled glove that was stolen from a country church during the war. His search leads him to Chris, a handsome young tour guide in Paris (Geraldine Brooks). A man who had been following Mike for unknown reasons was found dead in his hotel room. A rough sketch by Mike is in the man’s pocket. Mike tells police he doesn’t know the man and that he’s not guilty. Chris likes Mike so she joins him even though he didn’t ask her to.
Count Paul Rona, played by George Macready, is an art dealer working with the Nazis. He’s looking for the glove so he can sell it. Towards the end of the war, Mike and the Earl got into an argument. A French Resistance Countess helped Mike away, and Mike gave her his suitcase as a thank you. Despite the police and Rona’s thugs after them, Mike and Chris find the glove in Monte Carlo. It was in hand luggage. When the Countess kisses the glove, she stops being mad.
Mike runs back to the church with the jeweled gauntlet while Count Rona tries to catch him. It was dark and dangerous on the mountain hunt. Chris catches the cop’s attention. Mike shoots Rona in the clock tower and kills her. He then rings the bells and puts the gauntlet back in its place on the altar. French police say Mike is okay. Mike and Chris kiss and hug.

When the film came out in 1952, film critic Bosley Crowther thought it was a good film because the screenplay was written by Charles Bennett, who had written “higher” films like 39 Steps. But he noted that The Green Glove “isn’t on that level; It’s just a standard hunt for a medieval jeweled gauntlet stolen from a French country church.” He continued, “…but the story told is low-level melodrama. Glenn Ford doesn’t do much as a paratrooper who got into a fight with an art dealer who worked with the enemy during the war.”
Dennis Schwartz, a film critic, didn’t like the film, but he did like Glenn Ford’s work. He said: “Rudolph Maté (DOA, Union Station, Miracle in the Rain) is in charge of directing this standard thriller that has a few twists but gets bogged down by too many over-the-top melodramatic moments, characters, and a plot that doesn’t makes sense. It is based on Charles Bennett’s novel and has a weak script. There is a good story here, but it was not well told. The romance happened so fast I couldn’t believe it and the suspense wasn’t even close to what a great director like Hitchcock would have built the suspense and made things more exciting. (If you don’t believe me, check out The 39 Steps, directed by Hitchcock and written by Bennett.) Maté, a former cinematographer, can’t keep things real, and every plot point seems too planned . But Glenn Ford is there, and he’s so good at these kinds of action roles that he makes up for the film’s weaknesses.”

The members decide to hide out in a nursing home to cool things down. Meanwhile, the police begin their search for these clever thieves (which serves as a parallel plot to the story). The show takes a surprising turn when the members of Green Glove learn about the terrible things going on at the nursing home and begin to bond with the people who live there.
Funny and fast-paced, the Polish thriller show features not one, but two interesting side heists. Gang’s script, written by Zielonyj Rekawiczki, is perfect and there are no loose ends. Each episode features a different part of their plan that leads everyone to the final heist.
The law of averages tells us that if the main character keeps winning, he’s likely to end up losing. But the eight-part thriller keeps the balance on the side of our clever con artists and does the element of surprise well.
Perhaps the best part of the show is when the three members of Green Glove figure out how to defeat the police and the bad guys working at the nursing home. People can get very excited when aging experts rub it in their competitors’ faces.
Also, the structure of the show is set up in such a way that each segment gets the same amount of time. A thriller show could easily overlook the bindings department, but The Green Glove Gang guarantees such mistakes won’t happen. The whole part where the old friends can understand and relate to the feelings of the nursing home resident is a beautiful thing to see.
Thriller Heist story fans must check out this show. The ending is just as good as the interesting structure and leaves you wanting more. Overall, the fun and on-point members of the notorious gang will make for a great binge-watching experience.
