When Leung’s father saw an ad for a casting for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he told her to try it. She queued for four hours for a five-minute audition, although she didn’t think she would get the part. Two weeks later, she was called back to a workshop and cast as Cho Chang, beating out more than 3,000 other girls for the role. In an interview with the Daily Record, she said that looking back, her Scottish accent probably helped her get the job. When the casting director asked the girls at the audition, “Is anyone here from Scotland?” only Leung raised his hand.
