Killer faces DEATH PENALTY after stabbing 3-year-old daughter to death

LONGWOOD, FLORIDA: A man faces the death penalty on charges of stabbing and killing his two young daughters in a bloody attack.

Juan Bravo-Torres, 39, was charged Tuesday, August 9, 2022 with first-degree first-degree first degree murder and attempted murder. The charges stem from an attack on his children in Longwood, Fla., on July 21, 2022. Child who was killed when 3-year-old Eva Bravo-Herrera was born. Her 12-year-old sister survived but is in very poor health.

Police say the 12-year-old girl, who is still alive, woke up in July to find her father attacked her with a knife. When detectives spoke to the Bravo elder Torres’ daughter, she told them her father grabbed her neck while she slept in her brother’s room. Lawyers say the defendant, Bravo-Torres, went to get another knife. When the girl left the room, she saw her younger sister lying on the floor in the hallway. When police arrived at the scene, they saw a lot of blood and found Bravo-Torres unconscious and injured in the bathroom. His upper body was badly injured. The New York Post says the father tried to kill himself by slitting his wrists and throat after being accused of killing his toddler, but survived and went to jail.

“The victim told police that her father attacked her with a knife, but she fought back and ended up pretending to be dead to get him to stop,” police said. “The victim said her father dragged her and her younger sister into the bathroom down the hall after she pretended to be dead.” The victim said her father turned off the light in the bathroom, but she saw him cut his wrists and heard something like cutting his throat.

Eva’s body, killed with a knife, was found in the same bathroom. Officers said the 12-year-old stayed there and waited for the suspect to pass out. When she thought he was gone, she took the knife to protect herself, locked the bathroom from the inside, and ran to McDonald’s, where her mother worked.

Neighbors have left memorial items at a home in Longwood where a man is accused of killing his 3-year-old daughter, seriously injuring his 12-year-old daughter and stabbing himself.

Documents show that Juan Bravo-Torres was arrested in 2011 for hitting his wife.

Last month Bravo-Torres did not appear in court because he had to undergo “emergency surgery”. His recent mug shot from Seminole County shows what appears to be a scar under his neck. Law&Crime records show he is still in prison on the case and an ICE hold.

On July 27, the suspect said he was not guilty. His court date will be August 30, 2022. Derek Chenoweth praised the 12-year-old girl for her bravery and quick thinking in a scary situation. “It’s amazing how brave this 12-year-old girl was,” he said. “Maybe adults wouldn’t have been able to make that choice. This 12-year-old girl did that, and because of the choices she made, she’s alive today.”
