Ines later visits Gloria’s room and is about to admit what she did. Gloria interrupts her. She explains to Ines that she doesn’t want to withhold something from her like her father, but that she still has to do it for Ines’ protection. Ines considers a confession as she feels even more vilified.

Freeridge Season 1 Episode 6: Episode

This one definitely has the vibe of one of those semi-episodes where there’s a lot of talk but little actual action. Although Demi and Cam offer their justifications, it’s difficult to challenge Andre’s legitimate anger or any of his actions in this episode.

However, Ines’ position is easier to dispute. I know she hates being treated like a child, but she also acts childish in response. It’s a bit predictable and hard to follow. I was hoping that given the creativity of the first episodes, Ines’ trajectory would be a bit more developed.

The fact that Javier’s illness is more advanced raises the stakes quite a bit, but I’m not sure if it will be good for the show or not.

If they continued, the program would have to be very circumspect about his illness and/or death. Comedy dramas like this often end up touching on such weighty issues in a superficial manner.

Also, I don’t think it was even necessary to up the ante since the story already had enough material for the rest of the season.

Mariluna and the Cursed Box didn’t really progress, which is unfortunate. As Season 1 draws to a close, we still don’t know much about this woman or what she wants.

I miss the magical realism amidst all the drama. But Gloria, heading outside, is preparing a promising Segway for the final stretch of the season.
