Ried finished his stint as a student athlete with the TCU Horned Frogs before transferring to Texas Christian University.
His father’s team, the Texas Rangers, selected him in the 17th round (477th overall) of the 1994 Major League Baseball Draft.
Ried pitched 84 innings for the Class A short season Hudson Valley Renegades in 1994 and had a 5-5 record, 2.89 ERA, 1.30 walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) and 84 innings pitched.
He played for both the Class A Advanced Visalia Oaks and Class A Charleston RiverDogs in 1995, splitting time between the two clubs and posting a combined 0-10 record, 9.34 ERA and 2.29 WHIP.
After retirement, he returned to his family’s business, working with his father and younger brother Reese as President and CEO of Ryan-Sanders Baseball, Inc.
He also began working as a baseball manager. On May 16, 2013, the Houston Astros, a major league baseball team, named him president.
During his time there, the club won the 2017 World Series and the 2019 American League pennant. Despite this, he served as executive producer for the film Facing Nolan.

In a conversation with an American statesman, he shared his passion for baseball and the fact that his family’s survival depends solely on baseball games.
He’s been a part of the game on the ownership side for about 20 years, but he only started playing with high schoolers in 2018.
His own father, one of the greatest pitchers of all time, taught him the game. Players respect Reese for knowing the game firsthand. Reese also volunteered to be the Regents’ pitching coach for the 2017 campaign.
He replaced Tom Buch, who had led the Knights to four TAPPS district titles over the course of a successful six-year career.
