In the end, Dr. Thomas identified laser surgery as the most effective way to treat Shannon’s persistent dry eye and improve her vision. Because of this, she was able to give up contact lens wear in the fall of 2017, right around the time she was preparing to start her show Fox News at Night.

At the age of 17, Bream enrolled at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. During her time there, she entered and eventually won the 1990 Miss Virginia pageant. She then entered the Miss America pageant in 1991. The amount of her undergraduate studies that the scholarship covered was substantial.
Bream returned to Tallahassee to study law at Florida State University after earning a business degree from Liberty University in 1993, and was honored magna cum laude for this achievement. She worked as an intern in the United States House of Representatives for Representative Bill McCollum of Florida. McCollum later rose to become Florida Attorney General. She was a student at Florida State University College of Law when she won the 1995 Miss Florida USA pageant and placed fourth in the 1995 Miss USA pageant. Once again, the scholarship awards she received for competing in Miss USA pageants paid off her studies throughout law school.
