Super Maximum Retro Show Episode 7: Release Details

Vice TV’s most nostalgic show yet, Super Maximum Retro Show, will be releasing a new episode soon. Hosted by Chris Distefano, the show showcases all sorts of interesting things to watch from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.

The series premiered earlier this month March 17, 2023. It is set to be produced by Jimmy Kimmel, the Brooklyn-born TV host best known for his talk show. Jimmy Kimmel Live! and many others. Each episode of The Super Maximum Retro Show usually begins with Chris introducing the guests of the night, who are celebrities from the music and other industries.

So far the show has had guests like Hasan Minhaj, Mike Canon, Adam Pally, Roy Wood Jr., Napoleon Emil, and Ricky Cobb. With all the guests on his set, he brings out 20th-century advertisements, toys, and photographs that would have gone viral if they had gotten out in this day and age of TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.

Blasts from the past, like embarrassing sneaker ads, celebrity mugshots, horrible wrestlers, and weird NFL videos, were included in the retro show. This season is said to have around nine episodes, with the last few containing the film gladiator and The Care Bears.

Super Maximum Retro Show: Recap of previous episodes

In the previous episode, we see Chris Distefano introduce the evening’s guests, including Chris Redd, Matteo Lane, and Yamaneika Saunders. Chris talks about the influence music videos used to have. Starring in a music video meant you were a major figure in the industry and gave the person high status in the entertainment world.

You’re looking at the 1983 Super Bowl Shuffle performed by the Chicago Bears. Chris Redd likes the video because it depicts a time when the Chicago Bears were great. They analyze the video and see that the choreography is awkward and wrong. Then they watch a 1988 video of the Philadelphia Eagles getting athletes to sing a song even though they’d never done anything like it before.

Yamaneika explains how producers of yesteryear should have used sports terminology to help athletes understand their dance moves well enough. Next came the 1983 Seattle Seahawks, where a player comes out of the smoke and plays the saxophone.

After the break, Matteo recounts the time he met Mariah Carey in an elevator and had a good experience. Then they look at the craziest pictures in history, including the first of Michael Jackson and Steven Tyler at the Beatle Mania Party in 1977. The next photo is from 1996 and shows KISS and Tupac posing for a picture together during they presented an award together.

When a 1980 photo of Mr. Rogers and The Incredible Hulk emerges, Matteo suspects that Hulk may have been on steroids. Another photo you see is of Farah Fawcett and Joe Namath in 1981 filming a shampoo commercial. They judge Joe’s acting skills.

After the photos come the toys part of the evening where Chris talks about some old clickbait toys that looked great on TV but once they got home they wouldn’t look like they did on TV. He shows the He-Man Kobra Kahn commercial from 1984, which shows a character just squirting water. Chris then pulls out the Mommy Secret Surprise Barbie and Tarzan figure, who just screams.
