He moved to Mumbai in 1980s and started his acting career there by appearing in small roles in Bollywood films. Political career

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Srivastava was the Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate to represent the Kanpur constituency. On the other hand, on March 11, 2014, Srivastav renounced his candidacy on the grounds that he did not receive enough support from the party’s local units. SP expected he would resign as competition for the seat had become significant. After resigning, SP dropped his offer to become a candidate for Kanpur.

On March 19, 2014, he became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), having previously been a member of the Socialist Party.

In January 2021, Raju Srivastav uploaded a short video clip to social media in which he criticized the producers and actors of the web series Tandav for allegedly hurting Hindu feelings by insulting the Hindu religion and Hindu deities. In the clip, Raju Srivastav claimed that those responsible for Tandav hurt Hindu sentiments. In response, users on Twitter questioned Srivastav’s hypocrisy. Filmmaker Vinod Kapri and others released a series of footage of Srivastav’s comedy performances, in which he made humorous references to Hindu deities and the Indian sacred epic Ramayana. Kapri claimed that Srivastav made fun of the Hindu god Brahma and joked that Brahma would enter into a romantic relationship with Indian actress Madhuri Dixit and that Brahma’s white beard would turn red.

Rohan Joshi, a stand-up comedian and public figure, stated in September 2022 that Srivastav took every opportunity to disparage aspiring comedians and humiliated their comedy as disrespectful wherever he went to speak. Joshi made this claim in relation to Srivastav.
