THE QUEENS OF NEW YORK Despite her promise to “do better,” the city council chairman has been caught speeding three times recently.

Selvena Brooks-Powers (D-Queens) pledged to comply with the law in April after a local news outlet found she had received 17 speeding summonses in just 11 months. Brooks-Powers, 39, reportedly said: “I absolutely swear I’ll do better” after being warned about speeding.

On April 24, June 23, and July 22, city cameras recorded her exceeding the speed limit despite her commitment. According to Streetsblog, the councilwoman received two speeding fines on days when she was driving around the city and discussing public transport with her colleagues. Almost all Brooks-Powers traffic offenses have occurred in Queens, where as of July 31 of this year, 27 people have died in auto accidents.

Florida official Joe Mullins was arrested after a speed stop and said, “I run the county.”

Three children are killed in a violent collision when a “drunk” motorist smashes through a guardrail during a high-speed police pursuit.

Based on their driving history, Brooks-Powers is eligible for the Dangerous Vehicle Avoidance Program. A car with 15 or more speed cameras in a year can be impounded by the city under the program until the registered owner completes a safety driving course. However, she may or may not be registered with the program.

In recent years, several US politicians have committed traffic violations. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s motorcade was pulled over for many traffic and speeding violations, but none of the $658 fines were paid. The legislator has spoken out in favor of tougher penalties for speeding drivers. Lightfoot’s SUVs have been part of at least eight incidents since February 2020. Their cars are featured in several events captured on video that CWB Chicago was able to obtain and excavate. Two Ford Expedition SUVs are seen in a film speeding through a series of red lights. Traffic cameras can flash in their wake. In other footage, a black Chevy SUV can be seen making a left turn at a broad intersection during a red signal. It is not known if Lightfoot was in the SUVs when the accidents occurred, and even if she had been, it appears she would not have been behind the wheel.

Amy DeGise, a New Jersey City Councilwoman, was recently caught on camera running her SUV over a bicyclist at a Jersey City intersection before speding off without stopping. After Amy DeGise met Andrew Black, 29, a cyclist, around 8am on July 19, she was told to back off. The incident happened at the intersection of Forrest Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

The father of a five-year-old, meanwhile, expressed his concern that Wisconsin Democratic leader Janet Bewley, who was involved in a car crash that killed his daughter and wife, will not be charged. Marine Brandon Fink has criticized Bewley for not contacting him after the horrific crash. The day before the horrific clash that claimed the lives of Fink’s wife Alyssa Ortman, 27, and daughter Khali, 5, Bewley, 70, underwent cataract surgery.
