The South Korean defense minister said that the K-pop boy band BTS will still be free to travel while enrolling.
The country is discussing shortening the three-week military service requirement for K-pop singers from the current two-year requirement.
The problem is becoming much more obvious as Jin, the band's oldest member, gets closer to 30 the following year.
A 2019 change to the law allowed K-pop stars with international recognition to delay military service until the age of 30.
In South Korea, where all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 are expected to enroll as part of attempts to resist a North Korea with nuclear weapons, military duty is very polarizing.
