Ryan Gosling was asked by Netflix about the most underrated movie people should see during one of the actor’s interviews for his upcoming film The Gray Man. The actor remembered My Brother the Pig, a 1999 drama starring Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson, without skipping a beat.
For those who don’t know, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have been together since 2011. They also have two daughters together.
Gosling didn’t hold back when picking the most underrated film.

Ryan Gosling gushed about the 1999 drama produced by his partner Eva Mendes and also starring a teenage girl, Scarlett Johansson. The film’s narrative revolved around Kathy Caldwell, played by Johansson, who was fed up with her brother George’s (Nick Fuoco) constant pranks.
George, Kathy’s brother, was turned into a pig by some old pebbles that belonged to their nanny Matilda while their parents were on a trip to France (Eva Mendes).
To meet Matilda’s immediate family and break the spell, Kathy, Matilda and George later traveled to Mexico. Although the film has a humorous but captivating plot, it did not receive good reviews when it was released.
The hour-long, 31-minute film has no reviews from viewers or reviewers and has a 31 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating. Obviously not many people saw or enjoyed the 1999 film starring Eva and Scarlett.

Ryan Gosling likes Eva Mendes movies other than My Brother the Pig. The actor gushed about Mendes’ 2007 film Ghost Rider, in which she starred opposite Nicholas Cage, in the same interview with Netflix. When asked what film he would bring with him if he escaped, The Notebook star replied:
“The Ghost Rider I like the actress in this film, Eva Mendes. big fan”
The actor also said that My Brother the Pig is one of his daughters Amada and Esmeralda’s favorites during one of his appearances on GQ UK. Added him:
“For the record, I wholeheartedly support it. Eva is fantastic at it.”
For her part, Mendes is doing everything she can to help her partner. She posted a poster for Ryan Gosling’s film The Gray Man and wrote:
“My boyfriend fulfills all my 1980s action star fantasies.”
In one of her recent interviews, she mentioned Ryan Gosling’s Barbie character and blushed like a “teenager.” The actress gushed about her partner’s performance as “Ken” in the 2023 film in an interview with CBS.
She observed:
“First of all, the 14-year-old in me gasped when I saw the picture of Ryan Gosling dressed as Ken. I’m guessing how my husband started out as a real “Renaissance,” akin to a “Cenaissance.”
Mendes also praised Ryan Gosling for his upcoming films, in which he plays two very different roles, in one of her Access Hollywood appearances.
When asked: “W “I want to spend my evenings with The Gray Man when I see him. And I want to spend my days with Ken [from Barbie].”
My Brother the Pig brought some of the decade’s biggest stars to Hollywood, including Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes, despite mixed reviews that left it a largely underrated film. Both Tubi and Amazon Prime have the film available.
