People often die in fires in China, where building codes are not always followed and illegal construction is commonplace. This makes it difficult for people to get out of burning buildings.

What did the state media say?

At least 15 people died and at least 25 were injured in a warehouse fire in northeastern Jilin province in July last year, according to state media.

A month earlier, a fire at a martial arts school in northern Henan province killed 18 people, most of them children. This sparked a debate about fire safety regulations.

In 2017, two fires in Beijing’s migrant neighborhoods killed another 24 people. In 2010, 58 people died in a major fire that destroyed a 28-story apartment complex in Shanghai.

The first case of monkeypox in China was found in the southwestern city of Chongqing. However, the local health authority said the risk of the disease spreading to the rest of the city was very low.

The patient, whose age and gender were not disclosed, has flown to Chongqing from another country, according to the city’s health commission. While in quarantine due to Covid-19, they became ill and developed a rash.

The monkeypox virus was found in the patient’s blood at both the Chongqing and National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The diagnosis was confirmed by a central government expert group on Friday.
The patient is being treated in isolation at a designated hospital and is in stable condition, according to the commission. All close contacts are kept separate for medical observation, but it didn’t say much about them.

“Experts concluded that the patient had been quarantined upon arrival in Chongqing and had no record of social interactions. “The likelihood of an epidemic is low,” the statement said.

The commission urged people from countries that had reported cases of monkeypox to keep an eye on their health and to inform health authorities if they had been in contact with patients. People traveling to these countries should not share items with people who have monkeypox or engage in sexual activity with people who may have it.

Monkeypox is a virus that primarily affects the tropical rainforests of central and western Africa. Symptoms can last between two and four weeks.

It’s been around in those areas for decades, but in early May, the UK became the first country to confirm cases of monkeypox. Other countries in Europe and America soon followed.

WHO says monkeypox is a global health emergency and raises highest alert level.

In July, the World Health Organization declared the rapid spread of a previously common disease a public health emergency.

Since it started spreading, China has been on high alert for people who may have brought monkeypox into the country.

In June, China’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urged all cities to watch for symptoms, the most obvious of which is a rash, in travelers coming to the country, especially those who are in a country have stayed where cases of monkeypox have been reported in the last 21 days.

A month later, China’s customs office asked travelers entering China who may have been exposed to monkeypox to come forward and say so.

People arriving from countries where monkeypox has been reported have been urged to take disinfection measures if they think they are infected or have been exposed.

This year, WHO has heard of nearly 53,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox and 18 deaths from 102 countries and territories.

The number of new cases reported worldwide fell by 25.5% in the week ended September 4 compared to the previous week. The biggest declines were in America and Europe.
