In late 2016, Wettlaufer attended the Toronto Addiction and Mental Health Center, where she allegedly confessed to her crimes. Local police and the Ontario College of Nurses were later notified by the center’s staff.

After Wettlaufer’s arrest on October 24, 2016 for deliberately administering lethal insulin to six other people, she also admitted to the murder of eight elderly people. She ended up receiving eight concurrent life sentences with a 25-year probation requirement.
