The show “Quantum Leap” on NBC tells the story of scientists who can leap through time. Each episode is about one of their journeys in a different timeline where they have to accomplish something in order to get to the next jump.
The first show was about a man named Sam Beckett. He jumps hundreds of times over the course of five seasons, changing not only what happens to other people but also what happens to him and the people he cares about. In the new version of Quantum Leap, a man named Ben Song finds himself in a situation similar to Beckett’s.
While the basic idea of time travel is the same in both shows, they tell very different stories about different people traveling through time. Herbert “Magic” Williams is the most direct link between the new show and the old. He is the leader of the new Quantum Leap project. He’s the one who keeps the team together and protects everyone from bureaucracy and other hassles so they can focus on their task of getting Ben home. In the fourth episode of Season 1, he tells Ian Wright why he wanted to be part of the project. What is it and what does Sam Beckett have to do with magic? What does “Magic” Herbert Williams have to do with Sam Beckett?
Magic is introduced in the new Quantum Leap as the strong leader of the team, but his character first appeared in the original Quantum Leap’s Season 3 episode “The Leap Home, Part II (Vietnam)”. ” Magic (played by Christopher Kirby) was then a young soldier in the Vietnam War. He was nicknamed “Magic” because he could stay alive in any situation and protect his unit from danger. Sam Beckett’s brother Tom was killed in the war. Tom’s unit included Magic, who supposedly died on the same mission that killed Tom. But then Beckett starts writing Magic, and things change.
Al tells Beckett that when Beckett jumps to Magic, he needs to make sure the train’s mission goes well. This means that he not only has to save his own brother’s life, but also the lives of all the other soldiers who are with him. Beckett saves the train with the help of Al, but another person dies in the process. Beckett took reporter Maggie Dawson on her mission along with the unit, and she sadly dies.
Beckett saves the day, but Magic doesn’t know what’s wrong with him or his unit. When he tells Ian about his experience in the present, he says he felt a little nudge. It was as if someone had gently opened the door to his thoughts and he let them in. He hadn’t realized it then, but he had let Beckett into his thoughts. When that happened, Magic went blank and Beckett took control of the situation. When he finally woke up, he found he had led his unit out of a very dangerous situation, but he had no idea how he had managed it.
In the years that followed, Magic never forgot Beckett. He didn’t know anything about the Quantum Leap project, so he didn’t know why he was dreaming about this strange man. But that made him think the man in his dreams had something to do with how his unit had miraculously escaped. He only found out about the time travel project many years later and was given permission to see the files that told him who Sam Beckett was. He also found out that he and the other soldiers he was in Vietnam with were meant to die, but Beckett saved them.
Now that Magic could see the whole picture, he knew what had happened to him back then. He also found out that Sam Beckett never went home again. So when the time came, Magic not only helped bring the Quantum Leap project back, but embraced it. He brought together a group of people who could finally figure out how to bring time travelers home. Once that happens, there’s an opportunity to bring Beckett home. Magic doesn’t know if Beckett is still alive, but he feels he owes it to him to at least try.

Magic (played by Ernie Hudson) is now in charge of the newly launched Quantum Leap project in the upcoming NBC revival, which begins Monday, September 19 at 10:90 am. He wants to know more about the machine and the man who built it.
Everything changes when physicist Ben Song, played by Raymond Lee from Kevin Can F**k Himself, also makes an unauthorized leap through time, leaving the rest of his team wondering why he did it. Addison, a distinguished Army veteran, played by Caitlin Bassett, appears as a hologram that only Ben can see and hear. Ian Wright, played by Cowboy Bebop’s Mason Alexander Park, leads the artificial intelligence department “Ziggy” and Jenn Chou, played by Bosch’s Nannisa Lee, is responsible for the project’s digital security.
Hudson says Ben’s jump complicates and jeopardizes the project. Also, Magic must stand up to its bosses at the Pentagon, who are invested in the project.
The actor adds, “Magic is in charge, but he has to dance a lot to keep this thing going.” “And Sam was one of the most important things for Magic. He never came home again. He’d love to have him back.” (It’s not clear if Bakula’s character, Sam Beckett, will appear on the show, but the invite is out there.)
Hudson says, “The challenge is how do we control this now that there’s another person in the middle of space and time?” There’s a lot going on inside [Magic].”

You won’t see Scott Bakula in the first episode of Quantum Leap on NBC. dr Sam Beckett’s (Bakula) research into time travel is accompanied by a new cast of characters in the new show. But fans of Quantum Leap have seen a character before. That’s why Ernie Hudson, who plays Magic Williams, is important.

On September 15, Hudson, series creator Martin Gero, and the rest of the cast sat on a panel of the Television Critics Association. Gero and Hudson talked about bringing Magic Williams back from one of Sam’s first jumps. Quantum Leap runs on Mondays at 10 p.m. on NBC.

In the Season 3 two-part episode “The Leap Home,” Sam leaps closer to his own family. In the second part he is in Vietnam with his brother. In this jump, he takes on the body of Herbert “Magic” Williams, played by Christopher Kirby in 1990, who looked like Sam.
Gero said, “It’s the same ‘Magic’ Williams.” “You know, we’ve all tried to keep as much of the old show as possible without making it too difficult for new viewers to understand.
Hudson is a regular on Quantum Leap, but that means other characters from the early episodes could return. If some of these actors are still working, characters from episodes from the 1980s might be the right age to show up in the present. or dr Ben Song (Raymond Lee) might see those people again in the past. This applies to both the people Sam has met and the people he has met in the past.
New viewers will learn about “Magic” Williams from “Quantum Leap.”
Hudson is perhaps best known for his role as Winston Zeddmore in the fourth Ghostbusters film. On Quantum Leap, he is in charge of a team that includes Dr. Song, the hologram include Addison (Caitlin Bassett), Ian Wright (Mason Alexander Park) and security guard Jenn (Nanrisa Lee). In Vietnam, these new people didn’t know about “Magic Williams”. This will also explain what happened to “Magic” after Sam jumped out of it.
Gero said, “We don’t want to give too much away, but one of my favorite scenes is between Mason and Ernie, where we learn about Magic’s past.” “I think it’s very powerful and beautiful, and there’s a new look to the old show in a way I think only our show can. Having Ernie on the show is a thrill for all of us and it’s really amazing and exciting to see him at his amazing work.
Ernie Hudson is old enough to have been to Vietnam
Hudson could not have played a soldier in 1970s Vietnam in the 1990s. But with a show happening in 2022, he can.
Hudson said, “People say, ‘You can’t have been in Vietnam.'” “I joined the armed forces in 1964. I think it’s nice to say that. But of course it’s great to be Magic.”
Hudson recalled, “The Leap Home, Pt. 2″ on TV. 2” was on the air.
“I watched this episode with my kids many years ago,” Hudson said. “And I was really interested in that person. I think a lot of fans could kind of understand it. To step into those shoes and answer a lot of questions about what happened to him and all that stuff is very exciting.
