Hallmark’s Big Sky River is a romantic drama based on Linda Lael Miller’s self-titled novel. Directed by Peter Benson. We follow two characters who are both coping with the loss of a loved one, Tara Kendell and Sheriff Boone Taylor respectively. Tara makes the decision to take a vacation from her busy schedule to deal with the pain her ex-husband has caused her. She does this by renting a summer home in a small, remote town where she can go horseback riding and have some time to herself.
As Tara moves in next door for the summer, Sheriff Boone Taylor, who’s lost the love of his life, finally finds his footing. As he gets to know her, he comes to the conclusion that she is special and wants her to be with her for longer than just the summer. The reality of everyday life complicates the idea of living in the country when Tara’s stepdaughter enters the scene. As you watch the romantic story, the scenic and lush green setting of the rural town makes you wonder where the Hallmark movie was actually filmed. You might be interested in what we have to say about that, if that’s the case.
Filming locations for the movies Big Sky River
Agassiz in British Columbia was the filming location for Big Sky River. In June 2022, principal photography of the romance film was completed. The production team chose to shoot the film in British Columbia, although the action takes place in Parable’s fictional Montana County. Provincial Canada’s broad and adaptable environment makes it an excellent choice for doubling locations from around the world, as was the case for Big Sky River. So let’s go ahead and check out the exact locations mentioned in the film!
Agassiz from British Columbia
Most of the pivotal scenes for Big Sky River were filmed in and around Agassiz, a tiny town in British Columbia’s eastern Fraser Valley. For certain pivotal scenes in the film, the Aberdeen Building was converted into the fictional sheriff’s office in Parable County, Montana in June 2022. Also, some sections of Agassiz’s Pioneer Avenue were used for key film locations.
To make the scene as convincing as possible, the fictional sheriff’s office was flanked by numerous police cars and a few uniformed officers with some Montana flags in the background. Also, one of the building’s windows was covered by a large sign that read “Sheriff’s Office Parable County.” The flyers on the bulletin board and other minor elements have been modified appropriately to make it resemble the imaginary county. The production team even used rusty chairs, antique wooden wagon wheels, and spring flowers to complete the set.
Agassiz is a perfect substitute for a region like Montana as it is surrounded by mountains and has many bodies of water, most notably the vast Fraser River. Aside from Big Sky River, Agassiz played a significant role in the creation of a number of other films and television shows, including Love Hard, Recoil, and Wayward Pines.
