In 2018, Bersten was touring with Dancing With The Stars when he started experiencing severe stomach pains. A blood test showed he had signs of hyperparathyroidism, caused by a tumor on one of his parathyroid glands. The next day he underwent surgery to remove his left parathyroid gland. After only a week’s rest, Bersten went back to work.
