Career of Mike Myers
When Myers was only two years old, he began appearing in advertisements. When he was 10 years old he appeared in a commercial for British Columbia Hydro and Gilda Radner played his mother in the commercial. At the age of twelve he played Ari in an episode of the television series King of Kensington. At the age of sixteen, he guest-starred in the pilot of the television series The Littlest Hobo entitled Boy on Wheels.
Shortly after graduating high school and receiving his diploma, Myers was invited to join The Second City Canadian Touring Company. In 1985, after moving to the UK, he became a member of The Comedy Store Players, an improv group based at The Comedy Store in London. He was one of the founding members of the group.
The next year he had a starring role on the British children’s television show Wide Awake Club, in which he parodied the show’s trademark enthusiasm with his own “Sound Asleep Club”, which he made in collaboration with Neil Mullarkey.

Myers also appeared on several occasions after the launch of MuchMusic, of which City Limits was essentially the prototype. Myers also starred in the music video for Ward’s Canadian hit “Boys and Girls,” playing the role of Wayne Campbell.
The character of Wayne Campbell was given significant screen time in the summer series It’s Only Rock & Roll, which aired on CBC Television in 1986 and was created by Toronto’s Insight Production Company. Allan Novak supervised and edited a number of location sketches that also featured Wayne. These drawings were made outside of the studio. Another of Myers’ sketches, “Kurt and Dieter,” which also starred Dana Andersen of “Second City” and was directed by Novak, was eventually adapted into the well-known “Sprockets” skit by Saturday Night Live. Myers was one of the sketch’s authors.
Myers made his debut on Saturday Night Live on January 21, 1989, becoming the show’s first repertory artist in more than two years. According to an article published in Entertainment Weekly, “He quickly became one of the show’s biggest draws because of his flair for developing eccentric characters with catchy catchphrases.” Myers also starred in the recurring sketches “Lothar of the Hill People,” Stuart Rankin, All Things Scottish, Lank Thompson, Middle-Aged Man, Simon, Coffee Talk with Linda Richman, Theater. Stories, Phillip the Hyper Hypo and Scottish Soccer Hooligan Weekly, as well as Wayne’s World and Sprockets. On January 21, 1995, the final episode starring Myers aired (exactly six years to the day after the airing of his first episode). In 1997 he reprized his role as host and in 2014 he appeared as film villain Dr. Evil up.
