Police are looking for Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa for his involvement in a shootout that killed a rival’s assistant. Barasa and his DAP opponent Brian Khaemba got into a fight at the Chebukwabi polling station where they were supposed to watch the votes being counted.

DCI for Bungoma Joseph Ondoro said Khaemba left and went to his car after the two got into an argument.

Ondoro says Joshua Nasokho, Khaemba’s driver, disobeyed orders and set the car on fire. Ondoro said, “Barasa went after him with four other guys and told them not to let Khaemba leave the premises.”

A police report states that at this point Barasa drew a gun, pointed it at Khaemba’s assistant Brian Olunga, shot him in the head, killing him instantly. He was already dead when he arrived at Kimilili District Hospital.

Ondoro said that Barasa wanted to talk about what happened. “He ran away, but we’re still trying to find him. He should just give up,” he said. At the time of writing, Olunga’s body was in the aforementioned hospital awaiting transfer to the Delight Funeral Home.
