Vancouver police in Canada shared video of a 40-year-old woman with her toddler. It shows the shocking moment when they are both thrown to the ground.
Police say the mother hit her head on the sidewalk as she and her child were standing on East Pender near Gore Avenue. The child has some cuts and scratches. Officials say they were called around 10:45 am on July 9 to a report of a shirtless man walking through traffic and kicking cars.
Shakwan David Kelly, 27, was being pursued by police over something that happened before. He ran in the back of the woman and the toddler, knocking them both out. Shocked bystanders ran to their aid as mother and child were thrown to the ground, while Kelly, who was naked, kept running. Police say Kelly kicked a car so hard that one of the doors was dented.
Video of the event was posted to Twitter by the Vancouver Police Department. According to Castanet, Sergeant Steve Addison said, “This attack took place in a busy neighborhood and about a dozen people saw it.” have what happened,” he said.
Vancouver police initially jailed him, but after he was charged with mischief, assault, and obstructing a peace officer, they let him go. Kelly failed to appear in court on July 12 when he should have. Police did not find Kelly until Thursday, July 21. They arrested him after a witness saw him on the news and told a Vancouver police officer who was walking around the neighborhood. He was taken back to jail, and police said they are still investigating Kelly’s alleged role in a series of crimes committed in Downtown Eastside and Chinatown on the morning of July 9.
People on Twitter also reacted to the video footage and said what they thought about it. One user said: “It’s a good thing Shakwan wasn’t driving David Kelly or the comment would have been ‘road rat driver with passenger killed’.” Another user asked on Twitter, “Why does the VPD want more witnesses to an attack that is so clearly seen on video?” One might think that the police should be asking for witnesses to tell them where Shakwan David Kelly, the alleged attacker. Someone else tweeted, “It’s okay to find Shakwan David Kelly and put an end to his criminal career.”
