Ruth Ann Casto, the mother of Billy Ray Cyrus, died on Friday August 12th.
Cyrus honored his mother by posting a picture of her holding a t-shirt with the cartoon character Snoopy hugging a heart. That’s what it says:
“Today my mother went to heaven. She should be there. She worked for it. She was what love was about.”
In the comments to the post, Billy’s fans and well-known entertainment figures shared their sorrow. Noah Cyrus, the singer’s daughter, also posted a picture of her grandmother from the past on her Instagram story.
The reason for Ruth’s death is not yet known. Perhaps you can learn more about her funeral soon.
Ruth Ann Casto hasn’t had the same fame as her son. She gave birth to William Clayton Casto and Mary Guila Boggs on May 14, 1937. She had two sisters, Carolyn Casto, and William Clayton Casto.
On August 1, 1952, she married Ron Cyrus and they had a son named Billy Ray Cyrus. They were married for 15 years before separating in 1966. Then, in 1970, Ron married Joan Marie Douthat.
Billy’s father was a prominent politician and a member of the Democratic Party. He was also known as Ronald Ray Cyrus. He was elected to represent Kentucky’s 98th Legislative District in the Kentucky House of Representatives for 11 terms until his retirement in 1996.
Ron worked as a rigger at Armco Steel Ashland Works and was Executive Secretary and Treasurer of the Kentucky AFL-CIO. He was a member of the Crownsmen Quartet, a Little League baseball coach, and a member of the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association. He also worked as a regional representative for the Federal Reserve Board.
Ron also joined the US Air Force in Japan and was the first chairman of the Billy Ray Cyrus Charities Foundation. He was also a member of Big Woods Community Church in Wellington, Kentucky.
Ronald Ray Cyrus died of lung cancer on February 28, 2006. At that time he was 70 years old.
